1. RB Godwin Igwebuike

With D’Andre Swift (shoulder) and Jamaal Williams (COVID list) out Week 14 against the Denver Broncos, opportunity knocked for Igwebuike. Only one of the two counted, but he literally fumbled away said opportunity in that game. Meanwhile, Craig Reynolds produced well with his opportunity to run against Denver (99 total yards).

Reynolds proved himself worthy of a bigger role for the game against Arizona, and he delivered again (26 carries for 112 yards). Meanwhile, Igwebuike barely played (12 snaps) and had what could have been a momentum-turning fumble among his four touches.

Swift’s status for the rest of the season is uncertain, but it seems sure Williams will be able to come off the virus list for Week 16 against the Falcons. Reynolds has now rightly been signed to the 53-man roster, and Jermar Jefferson is also around (six snaps against the Cardinals). It looks like Igwebuike is just simply the odd-man out in the Detroit backfield, once there are enough options to fill a full game day allocation.

Igwebuike won’t be cut at this point in the season, and he’ll probably remain on the active roster. But there’s a legit chance he’s not in uniform for another game this season.

Next. Rams should thank Jared Goff, Lions for beating the Cardinals. dark
