With an eye on the offseason, the Detroit Lions should re-sign these five internal free agents.

The Detroit Lions can take solace that they won’t go winless this season after beating the Minnesota Vikings in Week 13. Overall, in the first year of a rebuild, this season is and has been about finding who has a place in the team’s future.

The Lions will be well-equipped to add young talent in the 2022 draft, starting with two first-round picks. But before that, they will have enough cap space to make a little noise in free agency if they want to.

The Lions have looming decisions to make on some internal free agents, and whether to keep them or not. On that list, these five free agents should be re-signed.

5.  P Jack Fox

The Lions have full control over Fox as an exclusive rights free agent, since he has fewer than three accrued NFL seasons. If they offer him a one-year at the league minimum based on his experience, he can’t negotiate with any other teams.

But Fox is worthy of a raise, and a multi-year deal, based on his performance this season. Entering Week 14 he is third in the NFL in yards per punt (49.5), and ninth in net yards per punt (42.4). His long punt of 70 yards is among the longest in the league so far.

Fox has been one of the Lions’ best players this season. He’s a no-brainer to bring back for 2022, and beyond.
