3. Dave Krieg

Krieg is currently among the five most-sacked quarterbacks in NFL history (494 times), and he also made my list of the most underrated signal callers in NFL history a little over a year ago. He became well-traveled late in his career, with 12 starts in 1996 for the Chicago Bears and his final two seasons (1997 and1998) with the Tennessee Titans.

Krieg played in 14 games, playing a lot in eight games and starting the final seven regular season games for the Lions in 1994. He went 5-2 as the starter to help get the Lions a Wild Card playoff spot. The Lions would lose to the rival Green Bay Packers in that playoff opener, a game Krieg of course started as well for head coach Wayne Fontes. To the surprise of no one, Krieg took a total of 18 sacks in the nine games he saw significant action in for the 1994 Lions.

Krieg actually played quite well for the Lions in place of free agent bust Scott Mitchell.

1994 Stats with the Lions: 14 games played, 7 starts; 1,629 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, 3 interceptions, 61.8 percent completion rate, 101.7 passer rating
