5 wide receivers the Detroit Lions could trade for by the deadline
Rapoport followed his mention of the Lions looking to acquire a wide receiver with a mention of Isabella as a receiver teams are interested in.
“One name to watch. I know a player that teams have been interested in since training camp is (wide receiver) Andy Isabella from the Arizona Cardinals. He’s been mostly inactive this season. Talented player. They have yet to deal him, and haven’t really talked to teams about doing so. But, I would expect at least that talk, those inquiries, to ramp up as we get get closer to the next couple of weeks.”
Isabella has only played two games for the Cardinals this season, and only six special teams snaps at that (zero offensive snaps). Arizona’s signing of A.J. Green has pushed the third-year man out of the picture, but his highest snap rate in his two full NFL seasons is just 27 percent (2020). He has 30 receptions for 413 yards and three touchdowns over 30 career games (28 as a practical matter though, since it’s hard to make a catch if you’re not on the field).
Isabella had a productive three-year stretch in college at UMass, with a 102-catch season as a senior that got the Cardinals attention enough for them to use a second-round pick on him in 2019.
The Cardinals clearly have no use for Isabella, barring injuries to Green, Christian Kirk etc. In Detroit, if nothing else, he’d find better opportunity to play.
