D’Andre Swift had another good performance in Week 5 against the Vikings, and he was recognized with a unique award for one moment in the game.
D’Andre Swift has been the best thing going in the Detroit Lions offense this season. Through Week 5 he leads all NFL running backs in receptions with 29, and has has topped 100 total yards three times in five contests.
Swift had one of his games with 100 yards from scrimmage in Week 5 against the Minnesota Vikings, with 11 carries for 51 yards and touchdown along with six catches for 53 yards.
Those who are old enough surely remember a segment on on ESPN’s Monday night pre-game show called “Jacked Up.” It celebrated huge hits from the week’s action to that point. The league’s too-late attention to concussions led to the segment going away.
On NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” Kyle Brandt has taken the baton to celebrate physical football on a weekly basis, but in a more responsible way with energy and fun in spades. “Angry Runs” is the segment on Tuesday mornings, complete with a t-shirt Brandt wears and an “angry sceptor” (ripped out of a Star Wars movie?) that gets sent to the weekly winner.
Swift caught a screen pass in last Sunday’s game with some room in front of him. Vikings struggling cornerback Bashaud Breeland had the misfortune of standing in the way, as Swift made a decision to lower his pads. “Low man wins”, indeed, as Swift sent Breeland reeling to the ground.

“He saw another grown man and he ran him over, so he gets the scepter.” Brandt stated it well, and co-host DeAngelo Hall, a former NFL cornerback, cited how corners don’t like to hit and how Swift confirmed it (and probably recognized it).
The Lions won’t win a lot of anything this year, so taking victories where they are available becomes noteworthy. Swift had the “angriest run” for Week 5, and it was very well-deserved.
