With their loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Friday, the Detroit Lions suffered their third and final defeat of the preseason. And now it’s time to trim their roster to just 53-men, as mandated by the NFL, by this Tuesday. And that process has already begun.

Under the watchful of general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell, the Lions have kicked off a new era in Motown and are in the midst of a rebuild. And that includes making some tough decisions about the players who will make up the team’s final roster in 2021.

Here’s a list of players that have reportedly already been released to free agency or waived and sent to the waiver wire to help the Lions get down to the required 53-man roster …

The Lions will be making cuts throughout the day into Tuesday. As that news trickles in, we’ll update the above list. Be sure to check back to this page regularly as we’ll be updating it often.

Despite the Lions coming off a winless preseason, there’s hope that the new regime has done enough to try and overcome the low expectations for the team this year. That includes the addition of a very talented draft class of which all seven members figure to make the final 53.

The Detroit Lions not only hired a new general manager and head coach in the offseason, but they also made a major change under center. The Lions traded away quarterback Matthew Stafford and replaced him with two-time Pro Bowl passer Jared Goff. Who will make up the supporting cast around Goff has been a major theme of the offseason and perhaps final cuts gives Motown another opportunity to add more talent around him from other NFL teams.
