Trade Scenario #2

Analysis: This might be the most attractive landing spot for Stafford. Especially if the 12-year veteran is looking to secure his legacy as a potential Hall of Fame candidate.

The San Francisco 49ers were just in the Super Bowl in 2019 after posting a 13-3 record. And that was with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo under center. With the inconsistent Garoppolo playing in only six games in 2020 due to injury, the Niners finished this past season with a 6-10 record.

Owning the 12th overall selection in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the 49ers are an attractive landing spot for Stafford for obvious reasons. And because the team likely believes it is only one quarterback away from hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, they might be willing to part with more draft capital than most.

With four draft picks in exchange for Stafford, new Lions’ general manager Brad Holmes, who is the former head of college scouting for the Los Angeles Rams, could accelerate the retooling of the roster in Detroit with several young pieces.
