Aside from the aforementioned Lawrence and Fields draft options, which would be huge to trade up for, there are other quarterbacks who are in the first-round discussion. Mainly, three other options have been discussed, Zach Wilson from Brigham Young University, our subject for this article, Trey Lance from North Dakota State University and Kyle Trask of the University of Florida. I think each deserves their own write-up.
Mac Jones, the Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback, has been trending in that direction, as well.
Zach Wilson was a three-star prospect out of Corner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah. He was rated the 38th pro-style quarterback in the 2018 class, according to 247 Sports recruiting rankings.
Wilson has compiled 3,692 yards passing, 33 touchdowns versus only 3 interceptions passing, and has an additional 10 rushing scores for the 2020 Cougars, according to Sports Reference’s website. He declared for the NFL draft this past week as a junior prospect who is only 21 years of age until next August.
To be fair to our subject, we will discuss tendencies and traits based on watching five selected games of Wilson’s career. The important thing is that we will not use meaningless games but target five games where he faced his best competition to give us the best information in looking at how he may fare at the next level. The test games are Houston-away (2020), Boise State-away (2020), Southern California (2019), Washington (2019), Utah (2019).
Not all of these were versus ranked teams but four were; the Washington and Utah games were losses, as well. Let’s get into some observations …
