The Detroit Lions are searching for a new GM after the firing of Bob Quinn

When searching for a new general manager, the Detroit Lions need someone who has experience in the front office as a higher up. Someone that has built good teams from drafting as Detroit has never been a free agent hot spot, but if they can get some good pieces and draft exceptionally well then, they are in a prime position to eventually become that desired free agent hot spot.

One potential candidate that checks all those boxes is Ed Dodds. He is the current assistant general manager of the Indianapolis Colts and is a candidate that the Lions should be targeting immediately once the Colts’ season is over to interview for the vacant position.

Dodds has a lot of buzz around him and every team in search of a new GM wants him. How could you not? He is quite the resume as he has helped turn the Seahawks into Super Bowl champs and the Colts into a playoff-caliber team.

Dodds’ first well-known stint was with the Seattle Seahawks from 2007-2016. Yes, he was one of the men behind the scenes who drafted star quarterback Russell Wilson in the 2012 draft. Not only did he do that, but he also helped put together the dominant defense, better known as the “Legion of Boom” where they went to two Super Bowls and won one of them.

After his stretch in Seattle, he became the Vice President of Player Personnel for the Colts in 2017 and played a pivotal role in the draft process for them by beefing up the defense as they took three defensive players in the first three rounds of the draft.

In 2018, he was promoted to assistant general manager and made the push to protect the quarterback and upgraded the offensive line by using two picks in the first three rounds to get guards. He also found some late-round running back gems that are currently thriving in Indy’s offense right now. Fourth rounder, Nyheim Hines, and fifth-rounder, Jordan Wilkins. Thus, making Indy a playoff team as they currently sit at 9-4 and are looking to make the late playoff push.

It appears that Dodds has the credentials and intangibles to bring a new winning culture to the Detroit Lions, one that many fans are not used to, but are begging to finally see. Sheila Ford Hamp needs to get it right on this one and lock Dodds in as the new GM and let him bring in his staff to create a consistent contending team.
