After suffering two losses to start the season, when might the Detroit Lions register their first win of 2020?

The last time the Detroit Lions won a game was Oct. 27, 2019, nearly one year ago. Since then, the Lions have registered 11-straight losses which includes suffering defeats in their first two games of the 2020 NFL regular season.

It’s been a sad state of the affairs under third-year head coach Matt Patricia. Despite his Super Bowl pedigree as the former heralded defensive coordinator of the New England Patriots, Matty P has won just nine total games during his tenure in Motown.

And despite the hope every new season brings, the moniker ‘Same Old Lions’ has likely never described the franchise any better than in 2020. It perfectly fits a team that has so far been a rinse and repeat version of last year’s 3-12-1 squad.

Despite a strong start in their regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears, leading 23-6 going into the fourth quarter, the Lions collapsed in the final frame. Detroit allowed their divisional foes to score 21 unanswered points and win the game, 27-23. It was nearly identical to the collapse the team suffered to the Arizona Cardinals in their regular-season opener last year.

That same formula for defeat repeated in Week Two against the Green Bay Packers. The Lions jumped out to an early 14-3 in the first quarter. But Detroit was then outscored 39-7 the following three quarters as the defense allowed the Packers to run over them to the tune of 259 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

These two all-to-familiar losses have fans wondering when the Lions might actually win their first game of the season. And frankly, the chances appear fairly slim until after their bye in Week Five. That means Detroit might not notch their first victory until mid-October … or later.

Here’s a rundown of the Detroit Lions’ upcoming schedule as well as the current records for each opponent

Week 3 – @ Arizona Cardinals (2-0)
Week 4 – New Orleans Saints (1-1)
Week 6 – @ Jacksonville Jaguars (1-2)
Week 7- @ Atlanta Falcons (0-2)
Week 8 – Indianapolis Colts (1-1)
Week 9 – @ Minnesota Vikings (0-2)
Week 10 – Washington Football Team (1-1)
Week 11- @ Carolina Panthers (0-2)
Week 12 – Houston Texans (0-2)
Week 13 – @ Chicago Bears (2-0)
Week 14 – Green Bay Packers (2-0)
Week 15 – @ Tennessee Titans (2-0)
Week 16 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-1)
Week 17 – Minnesota Vikings (0-2)

With the Cardinals currently being undefeated and the reputation the Saints have earned over the years, it’s a good chance Lions’ fans will have to wait until after the Week Five bye for the team’s first ‘W’ of 2020. The Jaguars and Falcons would seem to be more winnable matchups at this point, although both are being played on the road.

If the Detroit Lions are forced to wait until their divisional matchup against the 0-2 Minnesota Vikings in Week Nine or their home game against the Washington Football Team the week after to get their first win of the year, that would likely mean the season is all but lost. And yet another rebuild in the Motor City is soon on the way.
