Detroit Lions: Position by position breakdown of the 53-man roster
By Reuben Gasee
Here is how the Detroit Lions roster will look like to start the season
After a disappointing 2019 season that saw the Detroit Lions go 3-12-1, the team, front office, coaching staff, fans and the city are hoping for a better 2020 season. At the media presser hosted by the team at the conclusion of last season, ownership expected the Lions to be a competitive team this season.
This means that head coach Matt Patricia needs to improve on his 9-22-1 record. While he won’t be able to turn that into a winning record for a couple of seasons, if he even lasts that long with the Lions, he needs to guide the team to wins and set them up for success.
While up in the owner’s suite, general manager Bob Quinn has done what he can to improve the Lions roster. He had a very successful draft that was lauded by many and brought in players that he believes will succeed with the foundation the Lions currently have in place.
As many around the league and football world know, Patrica is on the hot seat and maybe even Quinn is as well. CBS ranked Patricia as the second-ranked coach on the verge of getting fired with only Doug Marrone of the Jacksonville Jaguars ranking ahead of him.
As ownership expects to win as mentioned before, if another losing season occurs in 2020, Patricia and probably Quinn will be shown the door as everyone wants to see the Lions succeed and win. If it doesn’t work with these two, the Lions will have no issue searching for candidates to replace them to put the Lions in a winning position.
On the field, the Lions will need their players to perform to their best and stay healthy if they want any chance of winning. We saw what injuries did to the team halfway through the 2019 season. Here are the 53 men that will make up the Lions 2020 roster.
