Now that NFL teams have shaped their rosters for the 2020 NFL season, we take a look at some of the players who the Detroit Lions could trade for.

The Detroit Lions are coming off a favorable offseason in which the team has much to prove. Each NFL team has redefined their rosters and some players might be available for trade. Here are three players that make sense to trade for.

Potential Trade #1: Avery Williamson

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reported that linebacker Avery Williamson has been made available via trade. It seems that there are limited teams that are interested in trading for him, so Detroit could take advantage of the situation.

The star linebacker tore his ACL during preseason and is looking to bounce back. He is someone who should pique the interest of head coach Matt Patricia. Especially as a player who excels in run defense and tackling.

From 2017-2018, Williamson only missed 14 total tackles out of 174 attempts, which ranks 4th best in that two year time table. He also finished 4th amongst linebackers against the run in his lone season with the Jets.

Williamson has the versatility to play the WILL, MIKE, and JACK linebacker spots, he’d fit nicely next to free-agent signing Jamie Collins, along with rookie Julian Okwara. He’d also be a great mentor for 2nd year MIKE Jahlani Tavai.

There are no guarantees that Williamson will return to perfect shape after his injury, but taking a chance on him brings another playmaker to the table in Detroit. There’s the possibility that it takes the Lions defense over the hump, which makes him worth the risk.
