Detroit Lions 7-round mock draft nabs defensive talent early
Round 2, 35th overall – Ross Blacklock, DL TCU
The Lions simply have to address the middle of their defensive line. Passing on the position in round one, Blacklock is a solid selection in the second round. He’s touted as an athletic defender with a relentless pass rush, something this team could certainly use along the defensive line.
To fill in for the loss of A’Shawn Robinson and Damon Harrison, Blacklock can partner with newly-acquired defensive tackle Danny Shelton to disrupt the middle of the line. He would be a solid start to rectifying the position at the very least.
Round 3, 67th overall – Cesar Ruiz, C Michigan
I know, I know … a Michigan player drafted to the Detroit Lions. But this pick isn’t a homer selection, it fits a need and is the type of player general manager Bob Quinn has historically drafted. Ruiz can fit into a variety of blocking schemes and has the ability to play guard as well as center.
Flexibility and versatility is exactly what we’ve seen on this Lions offensive line under Quinn. So, when Ruiz was on the board at this point in the draft, it made too much sense. With the loss of Graham Glasgow in free agency, the interior of the offensive line became a huge need. This selection addresses that need.
