Free Agency Option Three: Shelby Harris, DT

Here is an option that is not flashy or a big name, but Harris would be a very solid addition for a defensive line that needs all the help it can get. Harris can make an impact in both facets of defense, against the run and pass.

In 2019, as a regular mainstay along the Denver Broncos’ defensive line, Shelby made 49 tackles, forced a fumble, sacked the quarterback six times, and even managed to knock down the football out of the air nine times.

He did all that on his way to a 76.8 grade from Pro Football Focus, a company that watches and grades every game of the season.

The year before that, in 2018, despite lesser stats, he finished with an elite 90.4 overall grade from PFF. The Lions would be able to pick up a defensive tackle who can be successful in all areas of the game.

PFF projects that the Lions would be able to secure his services for around $5.5 million per year. If they can indeed add him to the roster at that price they should as long as they re-sign one or both of Robinson or defensive lineman Mike Daniels, in addition to drafting another one. Doing that would give them a solid interior defensive line, albeit one without an elite member.
