Draft Option One: Derrick Brown, DT, Auburn

Here’s an exciting option for the Lions. Should the Lions choose to trade back from the third overall pick and end up missing out on Ohio State corner Jeffrey Okudah, then Brown is a very likely option.

Brown is about as disruptive as you can get for an interior defensive lineman and adding him to the lineup would provide the Lions with the type of interior lineman they haven’t had since defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

Brown can play from anywhere along the line, which would give the Lions the flexibility to move him anywhere in-between the offensive tackles. His fast reactions and combination of size, speed, and strength give him the potential to become an All-Pro defensive tackle.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein wrote about Brown, noting the way he often bullies his opponents with ease and how he impacts the game in every way by writing:

"“rare combination of size and disruptive traits… has the ability to power into gaps… more of a pressure rusher… he should keep improving as a rusher… a high-impact starter early in his career”"

That is what Detroit needs to give its defense a jolt upfront. Adding Brown to the defensive interior solidifies that part of the team so long as they don’t neglect the position in free agency.
