I honestly don’t believe the Lions think they have a need at running back. Although starter Kerryon Johnson has yet to prove he can play a full season due to injury, the discovery of Bo Scarbrough combined with the presence of J.D. McKissic and rookie Ty Johnson seems to give Detroit a solid backfield.

Still, Johnson’s vast injury history that stretches all the way back to high school should give this front office pause. If Detroit can take a flier on a fifth-round running back, perhaps they’ll be able to uncover a hidden gem.

In this case, that possible gem is Arizona State’s Eno Benjamin. The 5-foot-10, 210-pound running back posted two back-to-back 1,000 rushing yard seasons for the Sun Devils. In 2018, he rushed for 1,642 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also had 35 receptions for 263 yards and two more scores. Benjamin famously had a 1,000 yards after contact that season.

If the Lions are looking to hit a late-round home run and find someone like Benjamin available, taking a chance on him would be the right choice regardless of how loaded they believe their depth chart already is.
