2020 NFL Draft: Detroit Lions will secure second overall pick if …
The Detroit Lions continue to move up in the 2020 NFL Draft. And all they’ve had to do so is lose. But how can they earn themselves the second overall pick?
With a loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, the Detroit Lions have now moved all the way up to the third overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. And not only will are the Pride guaranteed a top-five pick, but their position in every subsequent round has also improved.
But with one game left, a home field matchup against the Green Bay Packers, the Lions have an opportunity to move up one more spot in the upcoming draft. That means Detroit could have a legitimate shot of landing the projected crown jewel of this draft class, Ohio State pass rusher Chase Young.
After suffering a 38-35 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, the 1-14 Cincinnati Bengals have secured the number one overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. Many draft analysts seem to believe that the Bengals’ top selection will be a quarterback with LSU passer and current Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow the favorite.
Following a loss to their NFC East divisional rivals the New York Giants in Week 16, the 3-12 Washington Redskins currently sit in the second overall spot. The Redskins will head to Texas to play the Dallas Cowboys next weekend. And as the Cowboys still have a chance to win the division and secure a playoff berth, Washington should get a tough performance from a motivated Dallas squad.
Sitting with the third overall selection, the 3-11-1 Detroit Lions would need the Redskins to beat the Cowboys next Sunday in order to get the second overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. Detroit would also have to lose to the 11-3 Packers. If the Lions somehow beat Green Bay, they could potentially slip all the way down to the fifth overall pick as both the 4-11 Giants and the 4-11 Dolphins are stacked right behind them.
