The Detroit Lions kept it close again, but the Dallas Cowboys passing attack overwhelmed Motown, who lost for the sixth time in their last seven contests.
With their starting signal-caller out for the second straight week, the Detroit Lions had chances at an upset over a powerful NFC contender. Their toothless defense prevented that from happening.
Dak Prescott shredded the Lions for 444 passing yards and three touchdowns, and the Lions fell to the Dallas Cowboys 35-27 on Sunday at Ford Field. The Lions have lost six of their past seven games and at 3-6-1 are in last place in the NFC North.
Jeff Driskel started for the Lions in place of injured starter Matthew Stafford for the second game in a row and finished 15/26 for 209 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 51 yards.
The Lions recovered a fumble by tailback Ezekiel Elliott on the Cowboys’ second play from scrimmage, taking over on Dallas’ 28-yard line. Running back Bo Scarbrough, just called up from the practice squad this week, then plunged it in from five yards out for his first NFL touchdown. He finished with 55 yards on 14 carries to lead the Lions.
The two teams exchanged rushing scores in the second quarter before Cowboys receiver Randall Cobb hauled in a 19-yard touchdown grab to put the Cowboys up 24-10 right before halftime. Cobb’s 49-yard catch earlier on the drive set up his third score of the season.
Marvin Jones caught his seventh and eighth touchdowns of the season, his second score coming on the Lions’ opening drive of the second half. But the Cowboys opened a 14-point lead midway through the fourth quarter with a shoestring catch-and-run 17-yard touchdown by running back Ezekiel Elliott.
Up by eight points late in the fourth quarter, the Cowboys completed a 23-yard pass to tight end Blake Jarwin on second and 10 to effectively ice the game.
Danny Amendola led the Lions with four catches for 47 yards. Cobb and Michael Gallup combined for 263 receiving yards for the Cowboys. Center Frank Ragnow, defensive lineman Trey Flowers, fullback Nick Bawden and returner Jamal Agnew all left the game with injuries for Detroit.
The Detroit Lions travel to FedEx Field next Sunday, November 24th to take on the Washington Redskins at 1:00 p.m. EST.
