The Detroit Lions may get themselves a boost from the running back position versus the Cowboys after promoting Bo Scarbrough to the active roster.

The Detroit Lions will be without franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford when they take on the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday. The Week 11 matchup is set to take place at Ford Field with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.

With backup passer Jeff Driskel once again getting the start for the Lions, Detroit’s running game must step up in order to give the fourth-year quarterback a chance to succeed against the Cowboys’ numerous pass rushers.

The Lions received some good news this week when rookie running back Ty Johnson was cleared from concussion protocol and will play against the Cowboys. Expect Johnson to share the load with veteran J.D. McKissic. But the Motor City might also get a boost from a former college star.

On Saturday, the Lions promoted former Alabama running back Bo Scarbrough from the practice squad to the active roster. In a corresponding move, running back Paul Perkins was once again waived.

Scarbrough was originally drafted by the Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft, but was waived during final cuts as a rookie and added to their practice squad. After stints with both the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Seattle Seahawks, Scarbrough was signed to Detroit’s practice squad earlier this month.

During his three seasons at Alabama, the 6-foot-1, 235-pound bruiser back rushed for a total of 1,512 yards and 20 touchdowns while averaging an impressive 5.7 yards per carry. NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein described Scarbrough as a runaway locomotive that needs a long track to get rolling.

Midway through his second season in the NFL, Bo Scarbrough has yet to record a single carry in an NFL regular-season game. That could change this Sunday against the team that originally drafted him last April, the Dallas Cowboys. Due to his size, Scarbrough could also fill-in at fullback as Nick Bawden is questionable with a foot injury.
