Detroit Lions must stash Matthew Stafford and chase Chase Young
CHASE CHASE
For my part, there was no intention to call for this team to tank the rest of the season. But the Stafford injury changes everything.
Last season, my two main mantras were “Blow it for Bosa” (defensive end Nick Bosa, now with the San Francisco 49ers) or “Be careless for Kyler” (quarterback Kyler Murray, now with the Arizona Cardinals). This year the mantra has shifted to “Chase Chase” in reference to Ohio State defensive end Chase Young.
This team needs an infusion of defensive talent. Certainly, the quarterbacks in this year’s draft are worth consideration, but the Detroit Lions seem uninterested in doing anything at that position. Chase Young could help this team in an area of definite need: the pass rush.
The Lions have three and a half wins at this point, and honestly, that is already too many for what needs to be done. They cannot win another game (or even another half a game with another tie). They need to lose the final seven.
Stop “chasing the middle” of the draft with another win or two. And start “chasing” Chase Young. It will take a minimum top-three pick to get Young – and more likely first overall. But this team has to try.
There is no point in being in the middle anymore. Do what it takes and get as high as you can. And with Stafford’s current issues, there is always the possibility of grabbing a quarterback. But don’t hold your breath because you are likely to suffocate.
