The Detroit Lions have a half-season to play and many fans are divided about how to view the rest of the season. What has to happen to make a playoff run?

This week, we want to discuss how likely the 3-4-1 Detroit Lions are to make the playoffs. So, what are the chances and what outcome can we hope for in the second half of the 2019 season?

To be forthright, Kick In The Crotch Weekly does believe that the Lions will fall short of a playoff berth for the third year in a row. Before anyone crucifies us for being “one of those” fans, hear out the reasons. Hint, it isn’t because the Fords own the team, nor does it have anything to do with Bobby Layne.

No one is trying to be negative, hating on Bob Quinn, Matt Patricia, Paul Pasqualoni, or Martha Firestone Ford. We might not be 100% happy with all of the people just mentioned but the reasons are rooted in understanding football, not just emotional knee-jerk hatred or Same Old Lions kinds of sentiments.

To be fair, believing that the Lions are going to figure everything out and win nearly every game left to grab the sixth playoff spot doesn’t make you a great fan. At this point, you’d have to be delusional to believe that the Lions will win seven or eight more games. If you have hope that it could happen, though, we certainly aren’t trying to dampen your mood.

If you doubt that the Detroit Lions can turn things around after only winning three games through the half-way mark, you aren’t a bad fan. At some point, the reality has to hit you that the Lions are in a pretty big hole even as they aren’t eliminated from playoff contention going into Week 10.

We could start to believe in playoff chances if the Lions won three or four games in a row, starting with the next game versus the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago. The Lions have the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, and the Bears at home to round out the next four.
