Lions vs. Bears Week 10 Scouting Report: Mitchell Trubisky struggling
The Detroit Lions’ season is on life support after losing three of their last four games. Can they get the second half of 2019 off to a promising start against their division rivals?
After yet another heartbreaking loss, the Detroit Lions have little margin for error for the balance of 2019. They’ll face a team with an even more desperate situation this Sunday, one that is in danger of bottoming out after winning the NFC North crown just a season ago.
The Lions travel to Soldier Field to face the Chicago Bears this Sunday, in a game that likely represents a must-win for both squads. The Bears have been one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL this season, already surpassing their total of four losses from a season ago at 3-5. The problems in Chicago run deep.
Most prevalent is the lack of progress made by starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, and the inability of head coach Matt Nagy to readjust his exotic offense after it befuddled teams a season ago. The Bears just can’t move the ball or score with any regularity.
The Lions, on the other hand, have had little trouble doing either of those things this year. It’s their defense that has been problematic, struggling to stop the run and the pass, and allowing way too many third-down conversions, three things that the Bears’ defense has continued to do well. It’s a matchup of two very different teams, with one common goal of not letting their season completely slip away in Week 10.
So what do the Lions need to do to secure their first win against the Bears since 2017 and not let the second half of their season become fruitless? Here, and each week, we’ll scout each team’s offense, defense, and special teams units, how they match up against each other and offer two players to watch from each squad.
