The Detroit Lions will attempt to climb the NFC North standings by heading to sunny California to face a similarly struggling Oakland Raiders squad.
The Detroit Lions snapped a three-game losing streak last week, defeating the New York Giants at Ford Field, 31-26. At 3-3-1 and in third place in the NFC North, the Lions have some serious ground to make up.
And the first order of business is to defeat the 3-4 Oakland Raiders in California on Sunday afternoon. The Raiders have lost their last two games coming into Week Nine, dropping contests to the Green Bay Packers and the Houston Texans consecutively.
For the Motor City, they’ll continue to rely on the hot hand of quarterback Matthew Stafford, who is having another MVP-type season. Stafford is completing 64.4 percent of his passes and has thrown for 2,093 yards, 16 touchdowns and only four interceptions in seven games.
Stafford and his receiving corps figure to be very busy for the rest of the season as the Lions’ lost their starting running back, Kerryon Johnson, to a knee injury. Now, Detroit will attempt to install a running back-by-committee approach to help support the team’s explosive passing attack.
