Calling it what it is
I apologize for playing the victim and claiming that the Lions are justified in doing the same, but that’s what I saw take place in the second half at Lambeau Field. It’s hard to beat Aaron Rodgers. It’s even harder to beat Aaron Rodgers on the road.
It’s nearly impossible to beat Aaron Rodgers on the road when five crucial calls go against you in the second half, and four of those five were objectively the wrong decision (and the other one was 50-50).
I’m just calling it what is, and if the refs had called it how it was last night, I’d be on here celebrating a win and temporary possession of first place, and maybe even claiming that Matthew Stafford is now Aaron Rodgers’s near-equal. Instead, ref-bashing is what I’ve been reduced to for this week. Not proud of it, but that’s what I saw last night.
Darrell Bevell made a genius flea flicker call on the very first play, as Stafford found Kenny Golladay deep for 66 yards. Unfortunately, the second half played out like an even more elaborate flea flicker: the refs handed it to the Packers, Green Bay put it back in the ref’s hands, until the final bomb was dropped right at the end.
Okay, now that I have that out of the way, we all have to put it behind us. Minnesota is next week, and I’m sure they don’t feel sorry for us. There’s a saying out there that the NFL season doesn’t truly start until the Lions get screwed out of a game by some obscure call.
After that slap to the face on Monday Night, I guess it’s game on. #OnePride
