Detroit Lions: 15 greatest wide receivers in franchise history
By Randy Gurzi
For much of the 1999s, the Lions had some impressive pass catchers at their disposal. Two of those players joined them in 1991 as they drafted Herman Moore out of Virginia and paired him with a veteran addition in Brett Perriman.
Originally taken in the second round out of Miami, Perriman spent the first three seasons of his career with the New Orleans Saints. He never reached his potential with them, however, as his best season was in 1990 when he had 382 yards on 36 receptions.
Once he landed with the Lions, things began to change for the better. Perriman had 668 yards and 58 receptions in his first season in the Motor City but only got better from there. By 1995, he was able to haul in triple-digit receptions as he had 108 catches for 1,488 yards with nine touchdowns — all of which remained career-highs for him.
Perriman’s final season with the Lions came in 1996 and he was still playing very well for them at the age of 31. The veteran had 1,021 yards on 94 catches before spending his final season split between the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins.
The former Lion has a son who now plays in the NFL, Breshad Perriman. A former first-round pick of the Ravens, the younger Perriman is now on his third team as he’s trying to reach his potential with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
