The Detroit Lions are one of eight undefeated teams left in the NFL after three weeks. But will they still be without a loss after their next three games?

Do you feel that? There is a buzz about the Detroit Lions again. Yes, it’s small but building. And that feeling has been absent ever since Matt Patricia was hired as head coach last offseason.

After three weeks, the Lions sit undefeated with a record of 2-0-1. This after a disappointing Week One tie to the now 0-2-1 Arizona Cardinals and two three-point victories over 2018 playoff participants, the Los Angeles Chargers and the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Lions were able to win their last two matchups despite playing relatively ugly football. But a win is a win. And in the NFL, those are hard to come by, Still, the quality of Detroit’s opponents continues to be questioned and their deficiencies are being credited more for those defeats than the Lions’ resiliency and talent-level.

The fact is Motown has more to prove in order to join the national talk as true contenders. And Sunday’s matchup against the 3-0 Kansas City Chiefs in Detroit has the potential to slingshot the Lions into legitimacy.

Longtime executive for the Dallas Cowboys, 2019 Hall of Famer, and current NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt recently ranked the Lions last in his confidence rankings among the remaining undefeated teams. Brandt categorized Detroit as being possibly too good to be true. He believes the Lions’ next three contests will be a true barometer of where this team ranks.

Here’s what Brandt recently wrote about Detroit on the league’s official website, NFL.com.

"” … the Lions have a real history of crashing and burning that they must contend with. Personally, I believe this roster is capable of bucking that historical trend, but we won’t know for sure until we see them do it. We should get a better idea of this team over the next three games, against the Chiefs, Packers and Vikings.”"

Both the Chiefs and the divisional rival Green Bay Packers currently sit undefeated. The Lions will face off against Kansas City at Ford Field this weekend. Then Detroit has a bye week to prepare to go into Lambeau Field and beat the Packers on Monday Night Football. Then it’s back home to face the 2-1 Minnesota Vikings.

It’s a murderers’ row of opponents who only have a single loss between them. But these games also have the potential to elevate the Lions to new heights in the eyes of the national media. More importantly, two of these matchups are against divisional opponents and are critical to Detroit’s playoff goals. Not a single team in the NFC North currently has a losing record.

Can you imagine the confidence boost winning these games would be for a young Detroit Lions’ team under a second-year head coach and a new offensive coordinator? For those still unsure whether to jump on the Pride bandwagon or not, seeing is believing. And the way the Lions perform over their next three games will likely determine the fate of their entire season.
