The Detroit Lions were able to pull off a shocking victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon and are still without a loss in 2019.

Entering into Week Three of the NFL’s 100th regular season, the Detroit Lions were undefeated with a record of 1-0-1. After getting a disappointing 27-27 tie in overtime to the Arizona Cardinals on the road, the Lions posted a 13-10 victory over the favored Los Angeles Chargers in Detroit’s home opener.

The difficulty factor for the Lions before their Week Five bye only ramps up with a road game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday and then back home to Ford Field for a battle against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Midway through Detroit’s third game of the season against the Eagles, the Lions had the upper hand leading 20-10 at halftime. Philly was able to score a touchdown in the third quarter making the score 20-17 going into the final frame.

In the fourth, both teams were able to splash in the endzone. And a blocked field goal attempt by the Eagles put the Birds in position to tie or win the game. But a great defensive stand by Detroit sealed the game with a final score of 27-24 in Lincoln Financial Field.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 18 of his 32 passes for 201 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions. Running back Kerryon Johnson struggled rushing for only 36 yards on 20 carries and a score. Fellow back J.D. McKissic had one rushing attempt that went for 44 yards.

Wide receiver Marvin Jones led the Lions with six receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown. Wideout Danny Amendola had four catches for 37 yards. While receiver Kenny Golladay was held for two receptions for 17 yards on eight targets. Top draft selection, tight end T.J. Hockenson, was targeted four times but only able to come away with a single catch for one yard.

Defensively, it was newly-acquired defensive end Trey Flowers that led the Lions on the road with a combined eight tackles and a sack. Also recording sacks were linebacker Christian Jones and defensive tackle Damon Harrison.

Finally, cornerback Jamal Agnew was able to redeem himself by returning a kickoff 100-yards for a score in the first quarter.

The 2-0-1 Detroit Lions will now head back home to Ford Field to face the 3-0 Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, September 29th, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. EDT.
