Is Jalen Ramsey the missing ingredient?

The answer that continues to be debated by the fans and media is the possibility of adding All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey. The very gifted Ramsey has become disillusioned with his current team the Jacksonville Jaguars and requested a trade.

NFL Network analyst Bucky Brooks, a former NFL cornerback himself, believes there are four current teams that have the right coaching and scheme to add Ramsey into the mix and make it work. They are the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, Oakland Raiders and your very own Detroit Lions.

Brooks’ reasoning that the Lions would be a good fit was mostly due to their system. Matt Patricia prefers man-to-man coverage and so does the intrepid Jalen Ramsey. Not only would it add a lockdown cornerback to the Lions secondary, but between Ramsey and Darius Slay that would give Detroit one of the NFL’s most dynamic cornerback combinations.

It would also make the depth that much better since they have Justin Coleman, one of the league’s premier slot corners already and Rashaan Melvin who has had a nice start to the season himself as well.

And not to be overlooked is the fact that Ramsey isn’t just a cover cornerback, he plays a physical game and would be perfect at playing the run the way Patricia wants his cornerbacks to.

On paper, it’s an absolute win-win. Even if the expected asking price of two first-round picks is a little steep.

But would it truly be the right move? In situations like this you never know, but consider how badly the Lions faithful and media wanted Detroit to step up and acquire Antonio Brown this past offseason and now he’s been released by his second team in a month.

Supreme talent is great to have, but the personality and how the player fits count for quite a bit. It’s a team game and regardless of how talented a player is, there is oftentimes a domino effect that occurs when adding a player of this magnitude.

Now let me clarify something; I’m not saying that Jalen Ramsey is a bad kid. He has been a stalwart who works hard, plays every week and is considered a good teammate.

I’m simply saying let’s look at what his arrival in Detroit could mean should the Lions pull the trigger …
