The Detroit Lions will kick off their regular season on the road facing the NFL’s worst team in 2018, the Arizona Cardinals.
After a furious offseason with several key free agent signings and the addition of yet another talented draft class, the Detroit Lions will finally kick off their regular season this Sunday. And the Pride will do so on the road against a team that posted an NFL-worst 3-13 record last season, the Arizona Cardinals, in the newly named State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
One of the biggest storylines heading into this opening matchup lays with the Cardinals’ newest arrivals. Arizona head coach Kliff Kingsbury will debut his highly-anticipated Air Raid offense against the Lions. And the first-year head coach will have the number one overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft under center to execute that scheme in Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray.
For Detroit, they have a new offense of their own under veteran offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell. His presence is expected to place a much bigger focus on running the football behind second-year running back Kerryon Johnson, thus taking some of the offensive pressure off the arm of 11th-year quarterback Matthew Stafford.
