While the Detroit Lions have indeed been in the basement more than their fair share, it’s important to remember that it’s been a decade since any division team won a Lombardi Trophy, list here from the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Some rival fans like to pull out stupid arguments about wasting Calvin Johnson and Barry Sanders and forcing them into early retirement.

Looking at their histories they haven’t had two players with the talent of Barry or Calvin but they have wasted plenty of good players careers since only one franchise even has a championship since 1985. Hershel Walker, Anthony Carter, Chris Carter, Brian Urlacher, Julius Peppers, Kyle Long, James Lofton, Sterling Sharpe, are all very good to great players whom our rivals “wasted”, too.

Lastly, there are always people who resort to or fall back on, bringing up things about the city of Detroit or the state of Michigan. Obviously this is a loser argument for a loser who has nothing better to say. Whether they talk about Flint water, Detroit crime, bankruptcy, or any other problem ignore these comments.

Big cities have problems, including Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, etc. There are more shootings in Chicago on any given weekend than anywhere in Michigan, for example.

The Packers are the only team that has won a Super Bowl (they’ve won two) since the Nineteen-eighties. The Vikings have one total championship from 1969 (the Lions have four). The Bears have one Super Bowl era championship since 1966 but had other championships pre-merger.

So, Lions fan, we hope that you have learned things about our rivals and now have some fun ammunition to use. Comment below with any facts that you’ve come across that are good to use against the Vikings, Bears, or Packers fans. This should be great during the time of year when everyone is waiting for meaningful football to start.
