The Detroit Lions continue to sign players to their boated roster prior to their preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns and final cuts.

The Detroit Lions will face off against the Cleveland Browns Thursday night in the team’s final preseason game of the year. Looming around the corner is not only the start of the regular season but also final cuts.

The Lions will cut down their 90-man roster to just 53 by Saturday. In the days leading up to their matchup against the Browns, Detroit has already been making some moves. We’ll discuss that and more in today’s edition of headlines.

The Lions have loaded themselves with a couple new running backs in Justin Stockton and James Williams prior to Thursday’s preseason finale. The latter signed on Wednesday following the surprising release of veteran back Zack Zenner. Both Stockton and Williams could earn themselves a spot on the practice squad with a standout performance Thursday night.

The Lions’ player to watch against the Browns is likely quarterback Tom Savage. Sidelined since the preseason opener with a concussion, Savage appears to be in a battle with Josh Johnson for the primary backup quarterback spot behind Matthew Stafford. If for some reason the Lions elect not to play Savage, tight end Isaac Nauta is a player worth watching as a solid performance could force his way onto the final-53.

This is just one of numerous roster projections fans have and will see this week. Three bubble names that made the cut in the above article include defensive lineman Mitchell Loewen. cornerback Teez Tabor, and linebacker Steve Longa. They could easily find themselves on the outside looking in.

On paper, the Lions should possess one of the strongest defensive lines in the NFL in 2019. With a potential starting lineup that includes Damon Harrison, Mike Daniels, Trey Flowers, and Da’Shawn Hand, Detroit figures to be much-improved upfront. That group should make things easier for every other positional group on the Lions’ defense, which is chock-full of young talent. It’s easy to see why Daniels is excited to be in the Motor City.
