With training camp less than two weeks away for the Detroit Lions, this is the time to start considering who will make the biggest strides in 2019.

The Detroit Lions are now in the final stages of preparation for training camp. This basically means that while Matt Patricia and his staff are anxiously awaiting their chance to get back on the field with their players,  general manager Bob Quinn is continuing to explore any and all opportunities to improve this franchise.

Yet if we must be honest with ourselves, Quinn and Patricia have already done well upgrading the roster. Considering this is only year two of the Patricia era and that Quinn was acquiring players for a completely different system under Jim Caldwell before Patricia’s arrival, the turnaround of the roster hasn’t been bad.

When you make the changes Patricia wants from smaller, faster players, especially on the defensive front seven, to the larger, stronger play-makers he’s looking for, they have made nice progress.

There is still more work, more progress needed before they can truly be considered title contenders, but this team has no excuses to be very competitive this season. Like playoff competitive.

However, every season usually hinges on a few factors happening before even the successful franchises can make a run.

One is that the teams’ top players have to play like it. They need to be exactly what they’re expected to be to make their team contenders. The coaching staff needs to be on top of their game and utilize their players in a system that gives them the best chance to be successful. And finally, usually, winning teams have one or two or even a few players that have breakout seasons.

So for the Lions to reach their personal goal of being competitive in the division and making the playoffs, who will those breakout players be that will give them a chance to make a run? Today I will discuss who I think will be the Detroit Lions breakout offensive and defensive players for the 2019 season.
