Now heading back to the question of the trade to New England. Obviously, since the Lions have made it abundantly clear Michael Roberts wasn’t going to make the team this season, it seems like the reason the trade occurred in the first place is that since Roberts is still young and has talent, despite not fitting into the Lions plans, Bob Quinn called the tight end desperate Patriots and asked if they wanted to take a flyer on him.

The conversation probably went somewhat along the lines of Bill Belichick mumbling incoherently, lest some media microphone somewhere where to pick up his thoughts and steal his soul, and Bob Quinn being fluent in Belichick mumbling understood Bill’s interest and pulled the trigger on the deal.

It was a win-win for Detroit. They were able to move Roberts who didn’t fit into their plans and get something in return for him.

Now it has all fallen through. Now all the panic can subside. The panic, of course, I’m referring to was the media being afraid that Belichick was fleecing the Lions and Roberts was suddenly going to be a star. Sort of like the Kyle Van Noy situation.

Let’s be honest that was exactly what the press was afraid of despite the fact they all were making the same reports that Micheal Roberts was going to have a tough time making the Lions roster.

It was no big deal to consider that he might become a casualty of the influx of talent at the tight end position this offseason, but if the Patriots acquired him and he was able to meet his potential, then the sky would fall and the world must end because Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia failed to help Roberts reach that potential and it would be yet another excuse to call for their heads because this regime is destined for failure like so many before them.

But since Belichick had to send Roberts back due to failing his physical, the alerts can be canceled. At least for the time being.
