The Detroit Lions 2019 season has high expectations from fans but what does success mean to this team? We’ll tackle that discussion this week.

The 2019 Detroit Lions season which started with free agency and a couple of big splash signings then not much else, eventually turned into draft season. The draft yielded a good amount of talent but was met with varying degrees of skepticism from much of the fanbase.

The up-and-down feel to the offseason has left many asking what they can really expect from the 2019 Detroit Lions, so we will discuss what a successful season would be for the Detroit Lions.

Expectations

Some pundits have predicted a very poor record, some a turn-around year for the Motor City Kitties. Prognostications are all over the place, and the closer the source is to the coast, the less they seem to like the Lions.

This has resulted in guesses of a 2-14 record up to an 11-5 record. According to ESPN, the computer models have pinned the over-under of wins for the Detroit Lions at seven wins.

After a 6-10 record in 2018, which was very disappointing, general manager Bob Quinn vowed to add playmakers and big improvements to the roster to continue to be more physical in the run game and on defense. Nine draft picks were used and others were brought in as undrafted players, too.

Some local outlets concurred with ESPN’s results, like this article from Dave Birkett, a beat writer from the Detroit Free Press, who also has the Lions as a seven-win team. So, the question remains, what does success look like for second-year head coach Matt Patricia?
