Detroit Lions: Would you trade offseasons with the Cleveland Browns?

O.B.J.

Out of the three transactions I’m highlighting here, Odell Beckham Jr. to the Lions was probably the least likely to ever happen. The slot receiver (who is the exact same size as the departed Golden Tate) would be a tremendous asset for Matthew Stafford and the offense, but at no point did Beckham look like a serious target in Detroit during this offseason.

He would have been more expensive to obtain than the Lions were willing to give up trade-wise, and his blonde tips and outsized ego would no doubt find plenty of detractors among blue collar Detroiters.

Consolation Prize: Danny Amendola.

Good Move?: The same people who balked when I wanted the Lions to pursue Antonio Brown would similarly have a problem with bringing Beckham to the Motor City. Cleveland also gave up their first round pick in order to get OBJ, so that would have meant no T.J. Hockenson either.

Keep up with the Browns!: Like him or not, Beckham is a proven superstar wide receiver with a larger than life personality. A three-time Pro Bowl selection with four 1,000 yard seasons, all before the age of 27, Beckham would certainly take pressure off of Matthew Stafford, both on the field and in the press room.

In a world where even finishing first in a division of four teams every once in a while is apparently too much to ask for, at least OBJ would bring some much-needed entertainment value to Lions games in 2019.
