What are the Detroit Lions picks in the 2019 NFL Draft?
After a successful free agency haul, the Detroit Lions have a chance to further improve their roster via the draft. Here’s a list of their draft selections in 2019.
After posting a disappointing 6-10 record last season under first-year head coach Matt Patricia, the Detroit Lions scored some big names in free agency earlier this year. Those newly signed veterans include defensive end Trey Flowers, wide receiver Danny Amendola, tight end Jesse James and cornerbacks Justin Coleman and Rashaan Melvin.
Combined with the potential results of the upcoming draft, this revamped roster in the Motor City could easily bounce back to once again be in playoff contention in the highly competitive NFC North.
The Lions possess some serious draft ammunition going into the NFL’s annual selection event that kicks off with the first round on Thursday night. Owning a whopping nine picks, Detroit has a chance to make a major injection of youthful talent onto their roster.

The Lions traded their third-round selection, 73rd overall, to the New England Patriots during last year’s draft for the Pats’ fourth rounder (114th overall) in 2018. Detroit used that pick to select Alabama defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand, who had an impressive rookie season in Motown. But Detroit got back into the round by trading wide receiver Golden Tate to the Philadelphia Eagles for their 2019 third round pick (88th overall) in 2019.
Finally, the Detroit Lions got an extra sixth-round selection from the Patriots following a 2017 trade for cornerback Johnson Bademosi. And the Lions’ extra seventh-round pick was a result of trading defensive tackle Akeem Spence to the Miami Dolphins last May.
