Safety. Marshall. player. 50. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Malik Gant. 229

The final pick of this draft rounds out the Lions’ secondary. After cutting safety Glover Quin and signing on Andrew Adams to reinforce the safety position, leaving Quandre Diggs and Tracy Walker as the apparent starters, the Lions should look to add at least one safety later in the draft.

With their last pick the Lions get a guy who can star on special teams and provide quality depth at the safety position, and perhaps even a starter in three safety sets in the long term. Gant is not great at making a play on the ball (as evidenced by only two interceptions and 13 passes defensed over his career at Marshall), but is a wonderful run defense safety and a sure tackler.

Gant would likely be the team’s number four safety at the start of the season, but could find himself playing into a role for the team in dime sets or perhaps even becoming the Lions’ third safety his rookie year.

With Gant, my mock draft 3.0 has concluded. I hope you found the draft informative and enjoyable. Agree or disagree with my picks? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
