Some other players are joining too

After Flowers, any other players that the team manages to sign seem like icing on the cake. In Jesse James (not that Jesse James), they find a young and talented tight end with modest stats, but who has gotten strong reviews for his blocking ability and pass-catching potential.

Cornerback Justin Coleman from Seattle (and another former Patriot) hasn’t been a full-time starter in his four year NFL career yet, but his strength as a playmaker figures to boost a secondary that was lacking one outside of Darius Slay last year.

Coleman replaces Nevin Lawson, and while they’re probably overpaying for him, they had plenty of cap room for what needed to be a big offseason, so why not roll with it?

We all know that Patricia and Quinn love them some Patriot Way, so of course, a free agency overhaul of former Pats wouldn’t be complete without Danny Amendola, right?

Antonio Brown was traded away for 3rd and a 5th round draft pick, but at least now we have 33-year-old Amendola, right? On the surface, this is an easy move to poke fun at, but I’m sure Danny will soon prove me wrong.

By getting the consensus top available player and finding upgrades in positions of need at tight end and cornerback (all of those things and Amendola!), Quinn and the rest of the front office can breathe a quick sigh of relief, as they find themselves ahead of the curve at the moment when it comes to improving the roster for 2019.
