Let’s dive into some offseason headlines for the Detroit Lions, including the ranking of their roster of players, a new signing and the upcoming NFL draft.

The Detroit Lions are in the midst of trying to improve their roster in 2019. From free agency to the NFL draft, Detroit will use these tools to try to get back to playoff relevance this upcoming season.

Below are links to some of the top headlines about the Lions and their offseason adventures.

Detroit Lions take LSU CB Greedy Williams in Todd McShay’s latest mock draft – MLive.com

Following the Senior Bowl and before the NFL Scouting Combine, NFL Mock Drafts are very popular. One of the best draft analysts is ESPN’s Todd McShay. In his latest mock, McShay has the Lions taking a cornerback, Greedy Williams out of LSU.

Williams certainly fills a major need for Detroit, as the team needs a quality corner to play opposite two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay. But it seems most mocks have the Lions drafting a pass rusher instead.

Speaking of which, the above mock does have the Lions landing an edge rusher. Even if Detroit re-signs Ezekiel Ansah to another one-year deal on the franchise tag, it doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t still use the eighth overall selection in the draft on the same position.

Premier pass rushers are rare. And the Lions certainly hope they don’t have a future top ten selection due to a poor record moving forward. Now is the time to land one at a discount.

The top 101 players from the 2018 NFL season – Pro Football Focus

Surprise. Only one Lions’ player landed on the above list by PFF. And he even didn’t start the season on Detroit’s roster in 2018. What this really points to is the lack of development from some of the Lions’ higher picks like former first rounders in left tackle Taylor Decker and linebacker Jarrad Davis.

Detroit Lions’ Darius Slay one of NFL’s 5 best CBs, says Rod Woodson – Detroit Free Press

One player that was not in PFF’s Top 101 and probably should have been is cornerback Darius Slay. In the above piece, the great Rod Woodson gives Detroit’s veteran defender some well deserved love.

Lions sign former Auburn LB Tre’ Williams – Pro Football Talk

Because of head coach Matt Patricia’s multiple defensive scheme, Detroit needs to develop and house a big linebacker corps. Tre’ Williams went undrafted out of Auburn and a shoulder injury sidelined him all last season. Having been out of football for more than a year, this simply appears to be a flier signing on a guy whose traits are somewhat intriguing.
