Round One: D.K. Metcalf, WR, University of Mississippi

While this class is loaded with talents at the wide receiver position there are only a couple I consider sure-fire first rounders and Metcalf is one of them. Metcalf would immediately bring an upgrade to the position for the Lions.

Metcalf’s best attribute is his long speed. He has great speed and was a constant downfield target at Ole Miss. He was always getting separation in his routes and would consistently beat his man in press and off coverage.

He has strong hands and can go up and high point the ball in the air as well. All said and done, Metcalf would provide an ultra-talented wide out for the Lions to rely on and would likely see him take over as the starting wide receiver opposite Golladay by his second season.

There are not much negatives in Metcalf’s game. The worst thing you could say about him is he ran a very limited route tree at Ole Miss, mostly running deep go routes and the like. He would need to work on his broadening his routes before he became an every down player.
