The Detroit Lions have suffered some major coaching changes on the offensive side of the ball recently. Let’s dive into the news in today’s headlines.

The writing was on the wall for quite some time for former Detroit Lions‘ offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter. When Matt Patricia was hired to be the new head coach in Detroit last year, Cooter remained as his OC. A year later and now the two have parted ways.

Along with Cooter, the Lions have recently suffered two more losses to their offensive coaching staff. But they’ve also hired a new coach to fill one of the voids. We’ll cover that news plus more Senior Bowl buzz, some insight on new offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and a possible Golden Tate replacement in today’s fresh edition of headlines.

Lions hire Sean Ryan to be Matthew Stafford’s third QB coach in as many years – MLive.com

After spending a couple seasons coaching New York Giants’ quarterback Eli Manning and helping with the development of young Houston Texans’ passer Deshaun Watson, quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan has now joined the Lions’ staff. He’ll be tasked with helping Matthew Stafford bounce back from a down season and learn a new offense under Bevell.

Lions RB coach David Walker steps down

After three seasons in Detroit, running backs coach David Walker is stepping away from the profession entirely to pursue other interests. The Lions seem on the edge of reestablishing a running game that had been missing for so long in the Motor City. Now that mission will continue with someone else at the helm of the running backs.

A Senior Bowl prospect for every round in NFL Draft for Lions – The Detroit News

What is interesting about this Senior Bowl-only mock draft by Justin Rodgers is the fact an offensive lineman is the top selection with the eighth overall pick. If the Lions opt to move on from starting right guard T.J. Lang this offseason, this projection could become reality. And that would mean Detroit will have chosen an offensive lineman in the first round three out of the past four years under general manager Bob Quinn.

In this video interview between Forsett and Dave Birkett, the former Lions running back described Bevell as a mild-mannered, humble person. He said Detroit’s new offensive coordinator uses simple terminology in his schemes, which should make his transition much smoother.

Why Lions’ Brandon Powell is a candidate to replace Golden Tate – ESPN.com

There has been a lot of speculation about the Lions looking to free agency or the NFL Draft to replace Golden Tate’s production. But the team may already have his replacement on the roster in Brandon Powell. The undrafted rookie shined in Week 17 against the Green Bay Packers (six receptions, 103 yards) and he should get another shot to prove he can be who the Lions’ need him to be. But Powell can also expect to have some stiff competition.
