Offense South Team

Josh Oliver, TE, San Jose St., 6-5, 246, 4.84

Oliver has improved as a pass receiver hauling in over 700 yards worth of passes as a senior, according to Sports Reference. The Spartans tight end has made some big plays downfield during the early practices in Mobile Sports Exchange writers have noted, too. Oliver possesses ideal size, although he isn’t a burner in terms of speed.

Watching a little film on him we think he has good upside as both a blocker and receiver. His hands are pretty good and he is a pretty natural athlete with a thick build. Oliver is capable of getting downfield and hitting some seam routes.

As a run blocker or pass blocker, he needs work. Too upright in his stance, he lunges at times and catches blocks instead of delivering a pop, but he seems willing to improve. On a positive note, he’s been moved around and used in all phases while being productive against the Spartans’ best competition.

Reminds me a bit of Shannon Sharpe, except bigger and a little slower. Late on Day Two or early on Day Three of the draft sounds like a good area for the Detroit Lions to find this player there.
