Detroit Lions: 7-Round 2019 Mock Draft 2.0
Round One Pick Eight- Clelin Ferrell, Defensive End, Clemson
Clelin Ferrell is a disruptive force that is a terror in the run game and a force to be reckoned with when rushing the passer. Now, I’ll be honest with you, I wasn’t too high on this pick when I started seeing it around the internet.
But after watching some more of his film and reading up on him more in better depth, I’m starting to like the idea of Ferrell in a Honolulu blue uniform.
Ferrell will be the exact kind of edge defender head coach Matt Patricia is looking for and it wouldn’t surprise me to find out if he was a top three prospect on their draft board.
Ferrell will be a valuable asset for the Lions defense and a three down player as a plus run defender and pass rusher. I expect Ferrell to see himself in the running for defensive rookie of the year and to get himself a Pro Bowl and All-Pro selection early on in his career.
The Draft Network’s Kyle Crabbs wrote it best when summarizing Ferrell’s future impact on an NFL team:
"“Ferrell is physically capable of exploding out of his three point stances but prefers to win with his hands on blockers as compared to relying on speed. His technical prowess, hands and transitional skills as a rusher will allow him to defeat well placed tackles off the edge.”"
I would be very happy to see Ferrell in a Detroit Lions uniform come training camp and would look forward to seeing how much of an impact he could have for the team.
Others Considered: Byron Murphy CB WASH, Rashan Gary DE MICH, Ed Oliver DT HOU, Brian Burns DE FSU, Greedy Williams CB LSU
