Detroit Lions headlines: Looking forward to 2019

With the end of the regular season comes the new hope of a new year for the Detroit Lions. Let’s dive into some New Year’s Eve headlines.

The Detroit Lions ended their 2018 regular season on a high note. The Pride went into Lambeau Field and promptly shutout the Green Bay Packers to the tune of 31-0. It was a bittersweet victory for the Lions as the win dropped Detroit down a few spots in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Lions finally put it all together on Sunday, taking it to the Packers. Although it’s a hollow victory as Detroit really took advantage of the absence of quarterback Aaron Rodgers for a majority of the contest as well of a coaching staff that appears to be heading out the door. Still, a win is a win, however they come.

In summation, this was another lost season for Detroit, One that ends with more questions than answers. One worse than any of the four years under Jim Caldwell. And heading into a new year where the luster of the Matt Patricia hire has lost its shine.

Of this group, I think wide receiver T.J. Jones, tight end Levine Toilolo and running back Zach Zenner have all earn themselves another contract in the offseason with Detroit.

Picking eighth overall isn’t a death sentence by any means. But it isn’t second overall and it isn’t fifth overall. But I’m sure Sunday’s win over the Green Bay Packers is going to feel just as good in late April when the player the Lions covet goes seventh.
