Detroit Lions headlines: Week 17 Packer preview
As the Detroit Lions prepare to take on the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, we breakdown some of the top headlines when it comes to the Pride.
To win now or to win later. That seems to be the question when it comes to the Detroit Lions in Week 17. They’ll travel to Lambeau Field to face off against the Green Bay Packers in a game where both teams have already been eliminated from playoff contention.
Still, the outcome of this matchup will determine just how high the Lions will be able to draft in 2019. By Sunday night, Detroit could possess a pick as high as second overall in the first round or as low as 10th. A loss to Green Bay guarantees a top-five selection.
But no one likes to lose. And for first-time head coach Matt Patricia, ending his rookie season with a sweep of the Packers would be a feather (or maybe a pencil) in his cap. In today’s headlines, we preview the upcoming matchup in chilly Wisconsin and more.

Lions’ Patricia: Matthew Stafford is my quarterback – The Detroit News
To me, this appears to be a marriage of convenience for both Matt’s. Patricia is a defensive guru who doesn’t have a better option under center. While Stafford seems committed to winning in Detroit regardless of who is making the calls.
Lions place CB DeShawn Shead on Reserve/Injured – DetroitLions.com
The cornerback position in Detroit has to be the biggest issue the front office will need to tackle this offseason. Every corner outside of Darius Slay seems to be expendable.
