Detroit Lions Round 7

Jake Browning, QB, Washington, 6-1, 210, 4.78

Another smaller prospect who played in a Power-5 program with good production. He has 11,983 yards, 94 career touchdowns passing, 34 interceptions, in 52 games. Browning is ranked ninth among 2019 field generals. His 64.5% completion percentage is solid as are his overall numbers.

His smaller stature is somewhat offset by his reputation as a winner at Washington where he went 39-13 to become the winningest quarterback in conference history. He also has 16 rushing scores on top of his 94 passing touchdowns.

Nick Fitzgerald, QB, Mississippi St., 6-4, 230, 4.59

Fitzgerald has the kind of size-speed ratio clubs like, where he has similar physical tools to Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts, at least on paper. The senior, SEC gunslinger has 42 games under his belt, 54 touchdowns, 28 interceptions, 6,055 yards, and a completion percentage of 54.6%. His size, athleticism, 3,504 yards rushing with another 45 scores, and level of competition will get him looked at despite his dropping, sixth-ranked stock.

He could fall completely out of the draft or move up once the Combine or other events give him the opportunity to showcase his gifts. Former Mississippi State quarterback, Dak Prescott made such a move during his pre-draft process and is now a starter for the Dallas Cowboys. Fitzgerald is not an accurate thrower but has plus athleticism for his position.

These are not the only quarterbacks available during the 2019 draft but simply who fell to Detroit during each round. While KCW isn’t anxious to replace Matthew Stafford, drafting and developing another option at some point is always a good idea.

Who would you select? Is Stafford due for some competition to push him? Which round was your favorite pick? Let us know how you feel in the comments section.
