Some Detroit Lions fans have been calling for a change at the quarterback position. Today, we’ll indulge those fans and draft nine signal callers.

The Detroit Lions season has gone down the drain. The five-win season has been vastly less productive than predicted by most experts. At the quarterback position, Matthew Stafford was inconsistent and caused many fans to call for his job. What we will look at today is what quarterback is available at all nine picks of the Lions draft.

For unhappy fans, a particular sore spot is Stafford’s new contract extension, which pays him an average of $27 million dollars over the five years according to Spotrac. So, today’s article is for you, “Stafford needs to go” people. For the record, we here at Kick in the Crotch Weekly do not endorse a Stafford ouster.

Detroit Lions draft position

The Detroit Lions are currently seeded fifth in the 2019 draft order according to multiple sources including ESPN.  The upcoming draft is top-heavy on defensive talent and widely considered to be light on quarterback talent.

Justin Herbert, the junior Oregon signal-caller, just issued a statement that he is returning to Oregon for his senior year. He was long considered to be the top option available for this NFL draft.

With him staying home, that leaves a few options for Round 1. What we’ve done is used Fanspeak’s On the Clock simulator to assist us in running a seven-round mock, only selecting quarterbacks, to see who could be selected at each of the Lions nine picks. NFL Draft Scout was also consulted to assist in the checking the order the talent might be available, to keep it realistic.
