Although the Detroit Lions will face a tough opponent in the 10-1 Rams on Sunday, the silent feud between two former teammates could be more intriguing.

The Detroit Lions are hosting one of the hottest teams in the NFL this Sunday, as they’ll welcome the 10-1 Los Angeles Rams to Ford Field. Yet, it’s the silent feud between quarterback Matthew Stafford and former Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh that is actually heating up.

We’ll discuss that, plus grading Bob Quinn, the team’s worst and best seasons in franchise history and the NFL’s surging shoe game in today’s edition of headlines.

Matthew Stafford responds to another Ndamukong Suh diss: ‘Classic Suh’ – Detroit Free Press

Clearly, there is no love loss between quarterback Matthew Stafford and now-Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. In the prelude of their upcoming matchup, Suh has gone out of his way to refuse to give Stafford any credit by way of ignoring him completely via the media. And the Lions quarterback’s response was to simply laughed it off.

The two former first rounders spent five seasons together in the Motor City, but were never able to bring Motown any playoff success. Now they’ll face each other as their teams are heading in opposite directions.

The fact the Lions are missing many of their offensive weapons puts the onus of this matchup on the arm of Stafford. The tenth-year quarterback is going to have to play at a very high-level in order to excel with a group that’s been ravaged by injuries. Stafford hasn’t had the magic touch as of late, so this is a difficult ask. Yet, it’s a necessary one if the Lions are going to have any chance of beating the red-hot Rams.

Lions mailbag: Grading Bob Quinn’s work as general manager – The Detroit News

In the above mailbag article, Justin Rogers gives Quinn a C-minus grade as a general manager so far. I actually think the young GM has done a nice job adding talent to the team and deserves a slightly higher grade here. Especially considering the recent trades Quinn recently pulled off to acquire players like running back Kerryon Johnson plus defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand and Damon Harrison.

It’s ironic that Quinn’s role is primarily building the roster through the draft and free agency. And it’s the hiring of Matt Patricia as head coach that might ultimately get him fired.

It’s easy to guess which season was the worst for the Motor City. But what was the best? 1970’s 10-4 run was the selection above. Yet, the Lions have posted records with 10 or more wins five times since. Not to mention their multiple championship runs in the 1950’s. Although the above piece opted to only go back as far as the 1960 season.
