Lions vs. Bears: Two out, seven questionable on injury report
The Detroit Lions will be without some big names on offense when they take on the Chicago Bears in a pivotal divisional matchup on Thanksgiving.
Sitting at 4-6 and in the basement of the NFC North, it feels as if the ground is quickly crumbling from underneath the Detroit Lions. Coming off a 9-7 season the previous year, and with the hiring of former New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia as the Lions new head coach in the offseason, 2018 was a year full of promise that has since disappointed.
If the Lions are going to climb the standings and have any chance to get to the postseason, it starts with a win over a Chicago Bears team on Thanksgiving. While many games are labeled “must-wins”, this Week 12 holiday matchup feels like a “must-not lose” situation for Detroit.
Playing at home, in front of a massive holiday audience, this is the Lions best chance at redemption. And with the Bears starting quarterback, Mitch Trubisky, doubtful for this contest due to a shoulder injury, this lines up to be a great opportunity for the Motor City that they can not afford to screw up.
Unfortunately, the Lions have some serious injury issues of their own to deal with. Namely to starting running back Kerryon Johnson and wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. The rookie runner suffered a scary knee injury in Detroit’s big win over the Carolina Panthers last weekend that had some believing his season was over. Johnson is considered week-to-week with a knee sprain. As for Jones, he’ll miss his second-consecutive game with his own knee injury (bone bruise).
On top of those two starters already being ruled out officially against the Bears, Detroit had a whopping seven other players appear as questionable on the team’s final injury report. Those players are: defensive end Ezekiel Ansah (shoulder), wide receiver Bruce Ellington (back), cornerback Darius Slay (knee), defensive tackle Damon Harrison Sr. (shoulder), linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin (neck), tight end Michael Roberts (shoulder) and defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson (ankle).
