Rounds 6-7, final thoughts

(4) picks total, (2) in each round

With most of the big needs filled, the Lions can focus on depth and adding playmakers in the final two rounds. Plus, it is difficult to project who will declare for the draft and be available late in the process.

More from SideLion Report

The Detroit Lions could use more help along their defensive line, more edge help and help inside for Damon “Snacks” Harrison and A’Shawn Robinson. Da’Shawn Hand (Draft 2018) has been among the league best as a rookie but other ends have not been as reliable.

At some point, the Lions are going to have to develop another quarterback, too. Matthew Stafford is in his 10th year and Matt Cassel is a temporary finger in the dike.

There’s currently no tight end that scares anyone on the roster. Mike Roberts has potential and Luke Willson is inconsistent but a better all-around player would be nice.

Assuming we draft an offensive lineman or two, the line depth is thin after the starters. Tyrell Crosby (5th, 2018) gives the Lions a swing tackle but after him, there isn’t much. That needs to change on top of the line getting talent and youth.

As noted with the mock selection of DeAndre Baker, the speed in the secondary is a big concern as well as their inconsistency. The Lions secondary simply allows too many plays to happen right in front of them. Nevin Lawson and Teez Tabor seem more suited to backup jobs than being starters.

The Detroit Lions will lose running back LeGarrette Blount after this season, and just waived Ameer Abdullah; that will leave room for some new blood in the backfield behind rookie starter, Kerryon Johnson. Zach Zenner is back in the fold and Theo Riddick is still there, both as role-players.
